Overactive bladder (OAB) is a significant public health issue due to its high prevalence and its impact on patients’ health-related quality of life—especially when accompanied by urinary incontinence.
In Spain, it is estimated that around 5 million people have OAB, and because prevalence increases with age, the number of people affected is expected to rise, increasing both the healthcare and social burden.
The management of OAB within the Spanish healthcare system still faces multiple challenges, including suboptimal therapeutic adherence. The key recommendations of this consensus focus on strategic planning, technological innovation and digitalization, professional coordination and collaboration, an approach focused on health outcomes and quality of life, and social awareness and patient empowerment.
